Actions to date:

  • Paper bags have now been purchased and used. Plastic bags are still in stock but only used if asked for until they run out.

  • Now have a glass water container to refill people's water bottles, and this is advertised on the fridge, window and water container.

  • Swapping to cans in the fridge once plastic bottles have sold out.

  • Have contacted their Ice-Cream supplier who has agreed to supply wooden spoons instead of plastic - this will be implemented with next order. The lids are recyclable.

  • Currently have a Nescafe2 go machine ad currently cannot afford an alternative. So they have stopped selling the Tetley cups, and use Vegware cups with a tea bag. The same for black, white and decaf coffee.

  • Offer a 25p discount on ordinary tea and coffee if people bring their own cups

  • Rachel has contacted Nescafe regarding their packaging, highlighting the problem and asking for a solution.

Working on:

  • Still stock plastic water bottles.

  • Still stocking the Nescafe hot choc cups until thy are able to change the machine

Contact Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre

Woolacombe Tourist Information Centre are very happy to support the Plastic-Free Campaign and we are working hard to discontinue single-use plastics. The beach, sea and marine life are intrinsic to Woolacombe, so we feel it is extremely important to keep our coastline as clean and plastic-free as possible. We are lucky to have responsible beach owners who clean the beach regularly, but it is important that we play our part too, by not using the plastic that gets washed up in the first place … we hope to inspire visitors to North Devon to follow suit!
