community Cleans

Community cleans are where Plastic Free North Devon started as a community organisation and they are still an integral part of what we do as an evolving environmental charity. As well as tangibly making a difference to our local outdoor spaces they are a fantastic opportunity to educate and empower.

All our community cleans fit under our Cleanse and Clean banner which aims to encourage everyone to get outside into nature and give back at the same time by carrying out a clean.

We organise regular cleans at local beaches, adhoc cleans in much needed spots in the local area, emergency cleans when the community calls for it and an annual clean on our Day of Action.

You can find out where our next clean will be on our What’s on page or our social media pages.

Cleanse and Clean Day of Action

Each year we organise a Cleanse and Clean Day of Action in North Devon and Torridge. We call on organisations, businesses, schools and individuals to get outside one the last Saturday of January to cleanse themselves in nature and give back with a clean.

This year it will be held on 27th January 2024.

How can you get involved:

  1. Organised Cleans: Go along to an organised clean on the Day of Action 27.01.24. All details will be available on plasticfreenorthdevon.org and social media channels  in January 2024

  2. Set up or help run an organised public clean: Set up a public clean in your community on the Day of Action 27.01.24 - guidance and kit can be provided. Or help at one of the charity’s organised cleans.

  3. Individual Action: Carry out your own Cleanse and Clean, this could be a stroll around your village, a bracing dip in the ocean or a cycle around the park on the Day of Action 27.01.24, picking up rubbish as you go. Record how much you collected and where and then enter into the prize draw.

  4. BUSINESSES: Organise a clean at your workplace on the Day of Action  27.01.24 or in the week leading up to the Day of Action 22/01/24 - 26/01/24. Record what you have collected, send to PFND and we will enter everyone who took part into the prize draw.

  5. SCHOOLS: Organise a clean at your school in the week leading up to the Day of Action 22/01/24 - 26/01/24. Record what you have collected, send to PFND and we will enter everyone who took part into the prize draw.

You don’t have to attend an organised beach clean to have an impact. Carry out a #2minutebeachclean every time you are at the beach. Every piece of plastic picked up ensures it is not harming wildlife. You can also go to the Keep Britain Tidy website to see where other beach and park cleans are happening across the country.
